I have a fairly sedentary day-job where I sit for most of the work day. How does that effect my health? If you sit at home or work for a combined 6 or more hours a day, your risk of heart disease increases by 64% and you are potentially shaving off 7 quality years of your life. So to be blunt, sitting too much can kill you. There are a number of articles and reports you can read about how sitting too much increases risk of heart disease, weight gain, type 2 diabetes, cancer and other problems. Check out the fun and informative graphic below for more information on the hazards of sitting too much and what you can do about it. What am I doing about it? At work, I asked for a sit/stand desk, and every hour or two I raise it up and do my work standing. I try to take small breaks throughout the day to stretch and get my blood flowing. I have also adopted a better eating and exercise regimen in my life. Perhaps it's not enough, but it's a step in the right direction! Credit: Medical Billing & Coding
